With sports at the core, Special Olympics is a leader in the field of intellectual disability and the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Collegiate and alumnae chapters volunteer for Special Olympics in the following ways:

-Participate in the Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign

-Serve as buddies, huggers or coaches for Special Olympic events

-Participate in a local Polar Plunge or other Special Olympic fundraising initiatives
